COMA
follows a traumatic experience in 2017, in Florianópolis, when my
mother was in the intensive care unit following an operation. For 6
weeks, between visits to the hospital, to my mother’s room and to
the beach, I photographed. To breathe, to resist. During these past
four years, between introspection and cure, publishing has come a
long way. In the form of a poetic narrative, I intertwine images and
texts, evoking the transitory and indefinite state between life and
death and addressing multiple layers of meaning. I also appropriate
the polysemous character of the word COMA,
which means the state of
unconsciousness, both in Portuguese and in French, and also
represents, in Portuguese, four forms of the verb to eat: que
eu
coma, que ela coma , como você, não coma você.
